The main characteristics of Kingdom Family is a family in kingdom purpose. This article is more than advocating a happy family. Other resources are well developed by the ministries that help behavioral aspects of family.
I am talking about building families with God’s purpose and destiny, seeing increasing kingdom reign over the earth.
If kingdom purpose is increasing God’s reign on earth, the first place of God’s rule must be in our personal life.
When God reigns in our life, we can better rule over circumstances around our life.
In serving God, we have better results because God’s power that impacts me is able to work through me.
The difference is in the fruit of ministry.
Take for example, Heidi Baker in Mozambique.
Before God had full reign in her life, she planted 3 churches and some orphans in an orphanage.
After she was touched by God, and much of her ‘self’ was killed, God was able to perform signs and wonders and miracles through her.
Today, she has planted 4000 churches and her orphanages look after 20,000 children.
God’s kingdom purpose for her was in Mozambique.
Her kingdom assignment was to the poor and children.
Her kingdom impact is through the leading of the Holy Spirit and in His power.
It is faith that believes for God’s provision in massive ways when you consider the orphans she has to feed.
Food has been multiplying miraculously as they wait for finance and funding to pour in to feed the orphans.
Her confidence in God’s financial supply is unshakeable.
This should be our portion too.
But first we must be in God’s kingdom will and purpose.
Is it easy to build kingdom family?
Kingdom of this world – Family – Kingdom of God
Before considering the building of kingdom family, we need to consider what is happening in our world.
In building kingdom family, we face human culture and the culture of this world.
Families are caught in between the kingdom of this world and the kingdom of God.
We cannot assume it is easy to build a kingdom family.
Seminars and sermons are teaching tools for discipleship to begin with. These by themselves, however, are not enough to build kingdom families.
We need a culture where people live in habits and practices that distinguish them as a kingdom family.
Mental shift towards God’s Method of Discipleship
There are many models of making disciples in churches today.
I have discovered that discipleship is most natural in families.
Mothers naturally train children in everyday life.
In building kingdom family, it is about spiritually discipling one generation to disciple another generation.
The place of discipleship must be increasingly transferred to the home.
The current trend and tradition of leaving this to Sunday school, youth or adult ministries in the church are not as effective.
Pastors are equippers of disciplers that disciple their own families at home.
This is a shift in thinking.
It has the benefit of making spiritually strong adults that mature in the Lord in wholesome family life with kingdom purpose.
It is a ‘Generations Church’ with not only different age groups in church but it is effective in inter-generational discipleship in the church membership.
Both the young and the old must recognize their roles, with no one despising the other. It is a joint venture of the generations for kingdom advance.
The various generations have need for one another because a family is made up of different age groups.
A fact that we must recognize is that different age groups need one another for a wholesome fruit in ministry.
Young people minister better to young people but they also need the wisdom and support of the older ones.
Older people minister to older people but they need the younger ones to support them in technology and in some cases, energy.
